Hello all,
I am in the process of helping my Irish partner apply for a common-law PR application. We have been living together for over 2 years in Melbourne and have had to suddenly move back to Canada due to some family issues. We are just about to put our application in and want to have it processed through the Sydney Office as an outland application. Where we are having a little trouble is that we obviously want him to be able to work while he is in Canada but know that because we are applying outland we won't be eligible for the OWP. We have been going through the process of applying for the IEC visa as well (he has never had one). What I need to know is will these two applications interfere with each other, especially because they will be processed at the same time?

Also on a side note, does anyone have experience with processing a PR visa through the Sydney office? I know that on the CiC website is says 14 months, but I was wondering if this is standard or just an example of the longest processing time?

Thanks so much everyone,
Marg

The IEC visa is completely seperate so wouldn't interfere with your PR application. From what I've read of late applications through Sydney have been going very quickly recently...far more quickly than the posted 14 months. I'm sure I've read a couple of people got through between 3-6 months. You might want to check out the Sydney thread for more accurate info though.

We sent our application in late October and should have COPR next week. 5 months for decision made. Sydney is really quick.

Note that you can no longer nominate which visa office to process your outland application. CIC removed that choice from the recent IMM0008 forms. They will decide where it is processed.

Thank you so much everyone! As per the CiC nominating which office they process through, is this random or is it based on where you have lived? So strange.

it's based on where you live.

Can also be based on your country of citizenship (birth)
My wife is a work resident of Thailand and she is Filipino by birth her app was sent to Manila for processing.
CIC sends the apps to which ever office that fills their needs.

Chris.

Yeah, CIC may choose to have her application processed in London (Irish applications go to London) instead of Sydney. The good news is the apps through London on average take less than a year (see the spreadsheet in my signature) so if it does go there it's still not too long of a wait.

CIC can choose based on nationality or residency. If you are no longer resident in Australia then it's likely the app will go to London instead.

They can also choose based on resourcing. For example, much Pakistan processing is actually done in London, even if the applicant has never set foot in the UK.

Yes, sorry, should have said that as well! :) *Generally* it's done on nationality or residency, with a few exceptions, like Pakistan.

Also if one Visa office has too many to process it could be sent to a different visa office you wouldn't expect to.

Chris.
