Hello I am an international student studying in Canada since 2013.
well I ended up posting this for getting helped since anyone in my university doesn't seem able to give clear advice.
Before starting studying at UBC, I studied at a different university in my home country.
After taking 3 terms(1.5 years) and 3-years-long leave from the university, I wanted to transfer to UBC with changing my program too. UBC accepted my application so I started my study there since 2013.
Taking straightly 4 terms(2 years) at UBC, I have 39 credits left, which is more than one year.
As for my study permit, it expires 2017 October.
Suddenly I felt kinda tired and wanted to need some rest from school, and to make a little money also for my last reliable student life in Canada, so I am planning to take a year off from this April, 2015, not in Canada, but in my home country and to come back to Canada in September 2016. I am in my home country now anyway.
so I am wondering if my study permit is still valid when I enter Canada after taking a year off.
of course I have to extend my visa anyway but it seems better doing it within Canada.
an advisor for international students said that she thinks it is okay to bring my old study permit without renewing or re-applying it because it was issued before June 2013, when the new policy for international students was released.
she also suggests that I consult with CIC directly by call for this situation.
I am little worried about my often leave from school. although I will have just one-year-leave from UBC, I have 3 years leave from the previous university, which sounds like I am not interested in studying.
I have good standings (average A mark til now), which I hope that might help in my re-enter to Canada.
I just don't want to waste of my time and money for reapplying new study permit.
