Hi, I am a skilled worker NOC A with a 3 years post-graduate work permit. According to the CIC webiste ww.cic.gc.ca/english/work/apply-who.asp My spouse is eligible for an open work permit. However it says that "You must also be authorized to work in Canada for a period of at least six months. " My work permit duration is 3 years, but will expire in June THIS YEAR. In this case, can my spouse still apply?

Also in operational manual ww.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/fw/fw01-eng.pdf
Page 78 it states" The principal foreign worker must either hold a work permit that is valid for a period of at least
six month's duration, or, if working under the authority of R186 without a work permit, must
present evidence that they will be working for a minimum of six months."

I am confused about the "six months duration".

P.S I can't post links, so have to write "ww." instead of "www" for websites

Please advise!! Thank you very much!

The six month is minimum required for processing such request. if your WP has less than 6 months left, CIC probably will save their labour for doing so. However, if you have other options to extend your WP, your spouse can apply at the same time as you.
