Hi,
One of my friend wants to do PhD from Canada. Can someone help me or share some pointers to know more details about that. Few of the basic questions are -

1. what is the process for the same to apply for PhD.
2. As i understand, first she needs to clear IELTS Academic test. Once she is clear then she has to apply in universities. Is that correct understanding ?
3. If university accepts her request, then she to apply for student visa.
4. She is married, so does she get visa for her husband as well.
5. If her husband can get dependent visa, then can he work there ?

More details will definitely help her to understand the process.

Thanks in advance..

Hi,
Could you please help us. Kindly advise. Many of the people will have the information, kindly share. This network works only by sharing individual thoughts and experience, so request to share..

Thanks..

She needs to start by taking IELTS. Next she needs to apply for and be accepted by a PhD program in Canada. Then she can apply for the study permit.

Yes - her husband can apply for an Open Work Permit based on her study permit. There is no guarantee the OWP will be approved - some are approved and some aren't.

If she is serious about her plans to study in Canada, I'd recommend she spend time researching the process on the CIC web site. The questions you've asked are easily answered there.

Thanks a lot for your response. I will ask her to do the same. This info is quite helpful to start with.
