Hi Guys,

I'm met my wife on shaadi.com in April'14 and from there we started chatting on whatsapp and used to do Skype every Saturday and Sunday for 6 hrs each. She is from Ahmedabad.

Now I visited her 24 Nov 2014 to 28 Nov' 2014 and we got legally married on 8Dec 2014 with a small function with just family members(pics of all marriage available).

I wanted to know how to start the whole process.

From what I read on cic website:

Step One:

The Canadian citizen or permanent resident applies to sponsor the spouse, common-law, or conjugal partner.

Step Two:

The spouse, common-law or conjugal partner applies for permanent residence.

Can someone please elaborate Step 1 and 2 in minute detail. Any help would be highly appreciated.

I'm highly confused with the whole process. Thanks in advance :)

There are 2 parts in the application package one for sponsor and one for applicant (Non PR person to be sponsored). If you go to the website you will get the application package consists of few forms for sponsor and the applicant. You and your partner fill those forms and attach the requiredl docs and proofs of relationship as per checklist and your case and then the Sponsor sends the complete package to Mississauga. Then there are 2 stages, Stage 1 Sponsorship Approval, Stage 2 Case processing for the applicant. If your application is complete and you meet the CIC criteria for sponsoring your spouse then you are approved as Sponsor and then File is sent to your VO and processing starts there. Further communication is mostly done with the Applicant if you do not have a 3rd person involved as the agent etc. I hope I answered the intended question.

As mentioned by handsup there are two stages.

This is the forms you need:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/fc.asp#immigrate

Application to sponsor spouse outside of Canada.

You will first your part of the form Part 1 (Sponsor) and she will fill hers Part 2 (Applicant). She will then send all the forms to you and you will apply both the parts together to Mississauga.

One post which helped us and other is:

http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/how-i-organized-our-applcation-and-a-summary-of-all-helpful-tips-i-have-learned-t92449.0.html

You can use this as a guide line and of course not follow it completely since each application is different.

I suggest you start working on building the relationship details such as photos, call logs etc. Also start applying for police clearance and the last thing you can do is do the up front medical if you are planning to send it with the application

Ok Thanks for the info buddy!!

So I need to send everything to CPC-Mississauga all at once including marriage pics and proof of relationship.

So why does it say like stage 2 is that the sponsored person will apply for PR, when we send all at once to CPC-Mississauga?

Also does she need to undergo medicals only for herself or for her family as well?

Thanks again in advance for ur valuable time.

The first stage is the sponsor`s approval which is you then they will transfer her forms and docs to the visa office in India.

Yes she will have to send all her forms and docs to you and you will then combine it with yours and apply to Miss.

She will have to undergo medicals for her self only and NOT her family.

Thanks Draxz.

I'm asking about medicals for herself only.....coz I read somewhere that we I wont be able to sponspor her parents anytime in future.

Can you let me know the timelines for each stage as well?

The info you provided greatly helps!!!

Plus each country has country specific guides which you will find as you sift through the forms and such. Read them THOROUGHLY as some countries have different requirements than others, that way nothing is missing so your application won't be slowed or rejected altogether. Once your sponsor has been approved, it's sent to whatever VO processes your country's application (if doing outland).
They go altogether even though the applicant for spousal sponsorship even though the applicant stuff is checked later because the whole thing has one file number and they need to keep track of who sponsored who so they know who is 'responsible' for you.

As far as I'm aware, only your children ( if you have any )need medicals whether they are coming with you or not, but other family members (parents or siblings) don't but they need to know who they are in case you sponsor them later, if you don't notify the CIC about them in your application, you can't or she can't later. But they don't need medicals at this time unless they are being sponsored as well.

No you need to do medicals only for her (since you dont have children) and NOT her family members or yours.

I am an Oct 28th applicant its still waiting for first stage of approval; its currently taking an average of 60 days for first stage and about 5-6 months in the Delhi office.

As blueangel mentioned, there is also a country specific guide also in the link which have a second checklist and additional documents required by the applicant (your wife). She will need a police clearance certificate, medical certificate and photos.

We found it was easier to get the police certificate through the passport office and not the police station directly. She went to the passport office in Chennai and got it in about 5 days.
