Hi All,

I really find this forum very helpful.
I am expected to land in Canada around 2nd week of Jan 2013 (12-15 jan 2013) , so I was just looking forward to if someone could help me on below queries
1. Renting a small furnished house (1 BHK) in North york (around 5700 Yonge street would be my office)
2. Which Bank should I prefer for a savings account(concern is lowest transactional charges).
3. Which Mobile/Calling plan to go for (preferably calling India)
4. Internet connection @ home .
5. Wht all suggested items should i carry from India (some good handy checklist)

It seems i asked for a bot oo many questions :P

My details
-> From India
-> IT professional

Housing depends on your family size.
If single, try to find a room mate, instead of renting yourself. You get bound by the Lease agreement and mobility is reduced. If compelled to agreement, make it for 6 months.
I prefer Royal Bank of Canada as my banker.
Mobile calling plan differs. So shop around before getting into contract. Try getting unlimited local minutes and then go for VONAGE mobile.
Again for Internet, shop around and if possible go for short duration contract.
If you are single and IT, try to move to Alberta (Calgary or Edmonton) for lots of IT jobs. In Toronto, you will struggle hard. People are cheaters and will cheat you at every steps, even relatives. Be careful with your hard earned money. If single, can help you: rmaleshri@gmail.com . I have no motive, except to warn newcomers, as I have undergone much hardships.

Hi Rmaleshri,

Thanks a lot for the quick and informative reply.
As far as job is concerned it's more or less fixed @ North York Yonge street.
I am married but most of the duration in Canada I will single(except for 3-4 weeks when my wife n kid would accompany me).
What all places do you suggest for house to rented and expected rent, also would like to know how to commute to Yonge street.

Thanks
Amit
