I met my boyfriend in 2008 while travelling in Texas...we fell in love but I had to come back to Canada..we were planning to get married in october of 2008 but I lost my job and we had to put our plans on hold....we have been talking about him coming here since january 2010 (2009 was a difficult year for both of us) and i am trying to get answers from a lawyer but no success...
what is the best route in order for him to come here....Can he just come and live with me and then we get married and apply for permanent residency? or can he come here, get married and i apply for spousal sponsorship? I am so confused with all these laws...Please help...

Thanks

Might be of some help to start reading the information on the US2Canada website, then write back ,or send a message through the site, for more info. Good luck.

He can't just come and move in with you. He can come for a visit. During the visit, you could get married and then apply for permanent residence. Normally, a U.S. visitor is allowed to stay for 6 months unless the border officer gives a shorter time. A month before the visit time limit ends you can request an extension to the visit (which may or may not be approved). He can only bring the sort of stuff that is appropriate for a visit of a few months (no furniture, etc.) and he has to prove that he has ties to the U.S., like a home and a job and family, etc., to go back to. He'll have to show that he is willing and able to return at the end of his visit and that he has a way to pay the expenses during the visit (maybe by you). He can't work during such a visit.

A Permanent Residence application processed in the U.S. office in Buffalo, NY usually takes about 6-12 months from when you submit the application. If it's approved, then he can live with you permanently. There is a lot more to know. Go to that website and do some reading.
