Help please. Urgent po. Common law?

I am a tfw and currently processing my pr application under hospitality po. I have a 5 month old baby and my boyfriend got his pr march this year po. We started living together july last year. His family are already here in CA na po. Question is should I change my status from single to common law since one year na kami nagsasama or better na wag nalang since pr naman na sya and baka maging complicated lang. But when I asked my agency, they said we have to change my status to common law. Any opinion about this po please. Thank you.

Yes, you have to update CIC when your family status changes, including common-law status and the birth of your child. In your case, it is relatively simple, since your common-law spouse is already a permanent resident, and your child (assuming s/he was born in Canada) is a citizen, so neither actually would have to be added to your application.

Just write a letter to CIC informing them of these changes to your family status, include relevant dates, and photocopies of your spouse's PR card and baby's birth certificate. If they need anything else from you, they will let you know, but it should have no impact on the processing of your application.
