Hello! Please, I need your advice!

My situation: I am russian citizen with US bachelor's degree in Information Systems and 1 year US work experience as Software Developer.
I am trying to find job as Software Developer in Canada (Toronto area is my priority, but I am open for other locations as well) and relocate as soon as possible.

I have been looking and applying for last couple of month already, but no luck so far.
Main challenges as I see then: have to find employer who is willing to provide me with Work Permit, and not able to physically be there for the interview. Looks like many employers would be interested in me, but as soon as they learn my situation, they are backing up.

Am I doing something wrong? Should I look at the specific Web Sites? Maybe agencies? How do people find jobs not being physically there?

Time is running up and I really need to get the job offer. Is there any specific strategies?
Right now I am still located in US, but due to my visa situation, can not visit Canada.
Please help me with advice!

Your job is under the Alberta Jobs under pressure list,If you have a H-1 or H-3 visa you dont need a job offer to immigrate to Canada under the AINP Strategic stream,Thats what tens of thousands of Foriegn Workers in the US are doing now to escape the collapsing US Economy. You just apply and can get your nomination in a few months and arrive as a Permanent Resident

Thanks for the idea.
But part of my problem is that I didn't get US H1B this year and have to leave the country soon. That's why I am trying to find job in Canada ASAP.
Any other suggestions?
How do people normally look for jobs if they are not in Canada? I really need help...

Have your resume ready with cover letter and star sending it to all the jobs you can find online, use local newspaper websites in any city you want to move, or the other companies like Monster or Workopolis, some will contact you some don't.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the links.
I have been doing it for couple of month already: using Craigslists, Workopolis, Jobbank.
I will keep trying.

I was just wondering, would my chances of finding job with Work Permit increase if I go to Toronto (for example) with Visitors visa so I can actually go to the interviews????

Yes, it is always easier to get a job if you can interview in person. Before you pick a city, look at your options online and see if you can contact employers to line up some interviews.

Be careful. This is a very old thread. Unfortunately, programmes described in it are on longer in effect. Check the CIC Website before making decisions.
