Hello,

I've decided to do the outland process to sponsor my husband. He is a PR in the USA and I had his visit extended until April 27, 2014 (making that him being here in Canada for a year). His papers will be mailed in the next couple weeks. I was wondering if he can reside in Canada with me without having to get a new visa extension. Also, I had his criminal record check done back in September, will I be asked to provide a more recent record? All answers will be greatly appreciated!

He'll need to extend his visa to remain in Canada legally.

Yes - he will very likely be asked for a new criminal record check since his will be more than three months old at the time it's submitted.

Ah, yes of course. I just wanted to be sure and have those confirmed. Thanks so much!

Outland applicants don't get implied status, so we will have to get an extension.

The criminal record check has to be less than 3 months old at the time CIC officially receives the application. So another record will definitely be necessary.
