hi seniors/experts,

both me and my spouse from India...so I am still waiting for my PR card...so that i can get married to her...she is in india and i am in canada

my plan is to immediately marry her after i get my PR card...

i am thinking of doing this....as the spousal sponsor process can take upto 1 year, so for now i plan to do court marriage so that i can get the marriage certificate and once she gets her Pr approved and copr, then i plan to visit india and do the official family and relatives function and then come back to canada together...

is that a good approach? i am really confused how should i go about this marriage thing...as cic asks for wedding pics and all....

please help guys

How did you get your PR? How long have you been in relations? Did you declare your spouse on your PR application?

Hi

How did you meet your girlfriend? What is your relationship history? Is it an arranged marriage?

IRCC generally expects weddings to conform to cultural norms. For couples from India, that means the traditional big wedding with all of the ceremonies. A civil ceremony carries more risk of being seen as a Marriage of Convenience, especially if it is an arranged marriage where the couple has not really spent time together.

we met through a marriage portal last year...we started chatting/skype/whatsapp calls and exchanging emails. i went to india this feb to meet family in her hometown and then her family came to our house to do some initial ceremony to hold the bride...

then me and her spent time together for a week and i travelled to her town couple of times...i have ticket for same...have pictures of the ceremony that was done with her and my family....

also have pictures together for the time we spent...so all in all we spent time together....

now i want to marry her..so as sooon as i get my PR card i will fly down to india and thinking of doing court marriage...

problem is there are not dates available as of now to do big family function....all the auspicious dates are in november....and this sponsorship process can take upto 1 year...so thougrht of getting court marriage done and put her sponsorship papers..

once she gets her PR then i can fly down and do the big ceremony....

inputs guys!

Please try to be more patient. If people know the answers they will share when they can.

However, sponsoring her will take a year whether you marry her today or in November. A court wedding is not going to make her able to accompany you back to Canada immediately.

It sounds like you didn't spend more than a few days together and the relationship has been very traditional, which means there is a higher chance that the VO would wonder why there was no traditional wedding ceremony and possibly conclude that is was an MOC.

I suggest you post on some of the New Delhi specific threads. It is possible that others in your situation have been successful or that they may have more specific advice for you.
