Help - Is there a money no object visa?

Hi there,

I'm a 32 year old UK citizen and after the recent sale of my own company I find myself in the exceptionally fortunate circumstance as a multi-millionaire. With the UK rapidly disappearing down the plughole, I'd like to take my family off to pastures new.

We love Vancouver and are keen to go out there permanently. Before engaging an agent to sort out all the paperwork I was wondering if anyone could tell me if there is a visa option for just moving to Canada?

I don't want public healthcare, or any form of benefits, I don't mind sending my two children to private school. I'm happy to pay tax on any of my investment returns, and I definitely don't want to work!

I just want to live in Canada and be able to come and go as I please.

We initially thought of going on just 6 month tourist visas, but I don't particularly like the transient nature of it and it seems a lot of faffing with the boys if they are mid term at school.

Or maybe not if you can just fly back to the UK for a week and return for another 6 months? But that seems a rather big loophole in the whole immigration process?

Anyway if anyone can offer advice as what may be our best course of action please let me know.

No - there isn't a "moving" visa. You'll have to qualify under one of the classes listed below. You may want to check out the entrepreneur/investor classes.

FYI - everyone who immigrates receives public health care by default.

Thanks - I was just reading about that. So I bung the Canadian government 800K CAD interest free and they want two years to decide if they want it!??! Unbelievable!

I'm afraid the World is a big place and two years of limbo is a joke.

Everyone has to go through the immigration process, for all the Canadian government knows you could be criminally inadmissible

Oh don't get me wrong, I'm all for sifting out the undesirables and have no problem going through the system. It just constantly amazes me the amount of time wasted in shuffling some bits of paper!

It takes 7 days to get a police check done in the UK. I'd love to watch the pace that an immigration department work at for a day!!

You would be astounded how hard they work.
There were over a quarter of a million immigrants last year, factor in all those who applied and were refused, the numbers are massive.

Canada doesn't want rich people, goodness we have millions of rich Chinese living here in Vancouver that probably make your multi-million pounds seem like spare change.... ;D ;D ;D

What Canada needs and craves are young, skilled people. People who will live, work, pay taxes, buy houses with a mortgage and generally become Canadian with Canadian born children. Hence the reason why, you cannot just buy your way into Canada anymore.

There is also a lot of stories flying around, that in the future only people under the age of 40, maybe even 35 will be able to immigrate to Canada...period....no matter how much money they have.

Canada is still a young country compared to many and therefore needs youth to continue to grow.
