Hi,

I am a UK citizen living in the USA. I applied for an eTA to visit Canada, I was informed that I need to renounce my PR or apply for a new PR card.

It was a news to me that I have had a Canadian PR that would require renunciation, as I did not visit Canada since 1978.

I lived in Canada with my parents when I was very young (up to 3 years old); and we (my parents and I) left Canada for good in 1978 - that was 40 years back; and never went back. Do I need to renounce the PR obtained when I was 3 years old? Of course I do not have any details, like the PR number, or when or where it was applied - even my parents don't have them. How do I go about filling the application form?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Just fill in as much info as you can and attach an explanation letter , include any ETA application cross reference. You do not need any of the UCI or COPR numbers, put an approx Year/month for landing date and if you know city fine.

CIC can locate you with any of the other details on the form such as name and DOB and your current passport number. Attach a current photo.

No need to over think things as plenty of people who had PR years ago have been caught in the ETA ‘trap’ and only had vague recollection of dates from near 40 years ago. It is the declaration you sign to renounce that CIC want.
