Hey guys!

I'm new and working on my CEC application. I am a bit confused as to how I should fill out the Schedule 8 form. I have worked 1 year fulltime at one company, so that's easy to fill out, but before that I did a couple short contracts with another studio. I would work a week sometimes, sometimes a couple days on different short projects. Now, in the form we are required to input the amount of Weekly Hours we have worked, but since with that other studio I've sometimes worked 40 hours a week and sometimes 30 or less depending on the contract, I am not sure what to put in.

As an example, let's say I worked.

Project A - Two weeks (3 days in the first week from 9am till 6pm, and 4 days in the second week from 9am till 3pm)
Project B - 3 days (from 9am till 6pm)
Project C - Three weeks (5 days first two weeks from 9am - 6pm, 3 days third week from 9am-6pm)

Anybody has any advice of how I'd put that in?

Cheers!

First, it sounds like you were maybe self-employed while doing those contracts? If that is true, then it won't "count," so don't worry too much about it. You can say 26.25 hours on average (count a max of 30 hours per week) for 8 weeks. You can attach a note of explanation if you like.

Thanks for your help!

Hmm I don't think I was self-employed. I signed a contract with the company and have been paid from the Cast and Crew Entertainment Services in Toronto. I have T4's from them etc. and all the pay stubs have me under different productions and not as self-employed. I thought this went under the eligible part-time work situation maybe?

If I understand correctly your advice is to put in, let's say: From Feb 2012 - March 2012 25 hrs, Sept 2013 20 hrs. (as in the 20 hours would be my average of hours worked in the month right?) and they will get the specifics from the T4's that I submit?

Sorry if I'm being unclear, this situation has me a bit stumped.

Also, If I'd like to attach and explanation note, is it just a doc. file, typed up with reference numbers to the file and section i'm clarifying, attached to the whole document package?

If you had T4's from the employer, then you were in an employee-employer relationship and you can use that towards CEC.

For the second part, you are correct. Average out the hours worked over months.

So for e.g., One week you worked 20 hours and the other you worked 30 hours, then for both months use 25 hours.

Yep, if you got T4s (not T4As), then it counts, no worries. It's part-time if it was less than 30 hours per week, full-time if 30 or more hours per week, you might have a mix.

No, if your hours were variable, then to avoid potential confusion, you should submit a written explanation, a table or spreadsheet even will help, showing the hours worked for each week worked.

Yes, just type it up in a word doc. Ideally this information would be part of your Letter of Employment (how will your employer explain your hours worked?), but if necessary, you can place it behind the letter of employment in the package.

Oh! Thanks the explanation of exact hours and projects is a really good idea, i wasn't sure how to do it, but you've just solved that problem! Thanks a bunch!
