I applied for a Canadian visit visa since the 10th of August and I have since not received any decision. Please how long does it take to receive a decision. I am in China

It can take anywhere from a few days to a few months to process the application.

I intend to visit from October and to return in December since that is stated in my invitation letter. I am a student in China but I am actually from Ghana and we are already in September

October to December is a very long trip. This may make IRCC concerned you have plans to remain in Canada lng term. Unless you have very extensive travel to countries requiring visas such as the US and UK, you should really keep your trip to 2-3 weeks at most.

Ok thank you but is there any possibility of changing it now? Because I don't intend to stay long in Canada since I am already employed full time in Ghana and studying in China with a study leave from my employers. I have provided all documents proving that I am employed, married with 2 kids in Ghana and also studying in China (PhD). Unfortunately, I don't have very extensive travel to countries like US and UK. Please advice. Thank you

Considering you are studying in China and wanting to come to Canada 3 months, that will be a huge red flag. You are employed in Ghana, but you are technically not working, as you are in China studying, so I don't think the employment document will hold much weight unfortunately. Do you have the sufficient finances to pay for a 3 months trip? Have you bought your flights etc?

Yes please. I have provided my bank statement with about 24000 Canadian dollars in equivalent and I still get my full paid salary every month which I have provided. I also have about 6700 Canadian dollars in equivalent in my Chinese account but that I didn't add to my application. I also have some assets back home too. Yes I have also bought my flight ticket which is a round trip. But I want to find out if I can change it to 3 weeks since I have already sent the documents. The truth is I was ignorant about the number of weeks or months required for a visitors visa. I thought visiting for two months was ok. If there is any way through please let me know. I only wanted to know the outcome so that I could confirm my study plan for the rest of this year. Thank you

Never buy tickets before getting a visa, as you never know whether it will be approved or not. I suppose you just have to wait until they reach a final decision. You may be approved eventually (maybe not in time for your trip), but your case will definitely receive more scrutiny.(hence the wait time). I hope you have insurance for your flights and hotels as you may have to change these if they only grant you a few weeks.

The reason I bought the ticket was that it was part of the requirements. I believe they wanted to find out when I will return. I only wanted to know so that I could make arrangements to cancel the flight even though it will come at a cost and as for the hotel I don't need one because I am going to my Aunty who is a citizen and will accommodate me. But if I may ask is there any possibility of editing the information or until they come out with a decision nothing can be done?

In my opinion, if you contact them now it will look worse for your case. You only need to give the approximate dates you are going, showing the flights isn't a prerequisite. I would suggest waiting for the outcome. Out of interest did you mention you were staying with your aunty?

Yes please I mentioned I will be staying with my Aunty. She also confirmed that with her details in the invitation letter she sent to me. Is that good or bad please?

For such a long trip that might add more scrutiny too, but there is nothing you can do now but wait for the outcome unfortunately. If it gets closer to your trip time you could send a case specific query asking about your application, but 1. these sometimes even get answered and 2. you can't sway or hurry up their decision based on your travel plans. Hopefully you get approved eventually, but if not, it is a lesson learned for the next time you apply.

Yes its really a lesson learnt. I only hope that if the unfortunate happens I could reapply. But I would like to thank you and your team for the time. I do appreciate. Regards

We are just normal people, we are not part of the CIC or anything. Just like helping people along with the process if we can in our spare time.
Good luck
