Hi everyone,

First let me congratulate those who have already acquired their visa and good luck to those who are yet to.

I have been selected for M.Sc (2 years thesis based) program in University of Alberta starting in fall. I have been funded by my supervisor as research assistantship for $21,000 per year. I do have some questions to clarfiy before I apply for visa:

(1) Would financial letter sent by university suffice to prove for enough money to survive ?
Annual fee is $8000, so summing up with $10,000 for living expenses will make it 18,000. Would I need to show anything else because taking loans or showing property papers etc should be fruitless due to already enough funds given by my professor ?

(2) I will not be able to pay my first semester tution fee because that money is taken from my RA salary on per month basis. Would that be a problem ?

(3) Right now I am working in a company and makes around $900 per month. Could it be a reason for visa denial because I have a feeling that If you are already doing fine then they dont consider you for higher studies anymore?

(4) Do I need to make my IELTS center send a copy of scores directly to visa authorities or a copy of TRF I have will be enough ?

Hoping for reply!

Thank You!

Hi,

Congrats for RA.

1. Your financial letter from university is enough. No need to apply for loan.
2. Doesn't matter for visa application. Pre-payment of tuition is important ONLY if it's possible/required by the University.
3. For your visa application, it's a very strong point that you are working/already well established. Attach 'self' ITR/Form 16.
4. Submit only photocopy of TRF.

Congrats !! :) Which course did you apply for? I also applied for fall and am also waiting ..my application is complete and the decision iss pending. Pls what course did you apply for? and did you get a supervisor b4 applying ??

Thanks!

I applied in mechanical engineering department for M.Sc course and research will be on hydrogen fuel cell.

I contacted Professors only after applying online, Profs do ask to send them SOP and Resume if you request them to take you so keep them ready.

They do have rolling admissions system so you should soon receive their decision about your admission. I got it around 10 days back.

Good luck!!

That's nice. I contacted 2 profs b4 applying and i even sent them soft copies of my transcripts...i didnt go further than these 2 because my dept doesnt require me contacting a supervisor. They would fix me with a prof that shares same interests. I hope and pray i get admitted soon too :). For how long did you wait for their decision after you sent all the required docs?

@ashant

There are a lot of uncertainties regarding documents arrival. For example - I had sent my whole application package in Dec itself and it reached there on 4th Jan but my third recommendation letter was sent directly from my referee which was delivered on 9th Jan but there they were able to track it by 27th Jan that too only when I reminded them many times. So they updated my file on 27th Jan and like I said I got admission around 10 days back so its roughly a month wait once documents are received.

Btw, which department did you apply to ? Its kinda strange that they themselves are going to pick a Prof for you.

They got my documents 2 weeks ago. Its Mathematical and Statistical department. That's how it is at the dept...
