Hello, is Independent Contractor legal in Canada as a Student?

I got a job offer for 6 months, I work as a marketing person for a company in Toronto, they gave me an independent contract and they said I should file my own taxes?
as a student, is it legal to work like this?

As long as you don’t work more than 20 hours per week, you are fine.
