Hi all

Thanks for having me the forum. I am in my mid 20's and from Glasgow, Scotland (UK). I currently work in engineering and have some office admin experience. However; I am looking to take some time out to travel for a year or so and visit another country and work while I am there. The kind of work I do does not bother me, it would just be to accommodate my travels and living.

Canada has always been somewhere I would like to visit one day so I thought I would look into if their are opportunities to do the above.

Firstly, I was wondering if there is some kind of visa I can get to suit this? Does it mean I need to find a job before I go there or apply for a visa? Is it hard to get this visa (is there a limit on how many they intake)?

I've done a bit of research online already but thought it was probably better to get some advice from someone with experience and knowledge.

Any response is greatly appreciated!

Thank you

As long as Scotland is still a part of the UK, there is a working holiday (IEC) visa available to you. You don't need to find a job but have an open work permit for up to 2 years.

There is a limited number of visas so you need to watch the website and apply as soon as they open up for 2016. This is the website: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/iec/index.asp?country=gb&cat=wh

They usually open up at the end of the year / start of the next year.

Hey Leon

Thanks for your response. That's really useful information. This sounds good, so if I was applying at the end of this year/start of next year I would be applying to start my visa from 2016?

Also, during my research I have seen people speak about paying organisations to set all this up for you; I think BUNAC was one of them. Do you have any further info/advice on this? or should I deal with this all myself?

Scotland sure is part of the UK!

Thanks again and have a good day!

I haven't heard anything about agencies applying for you but you can use them if you want to. Like they say, they will make sure your forms are filled out etc. before you apply and send in your application on time. If you get the visa for 2016, you can enter Canada and start your 24 month period any time in 2016.
