OHIP normally has a three month waiting period for health care coverage from the time you apply. This waiting time is waived at this time due to COVID-19 but may be reinstated at any time. It's possible you and your wife will be subject to the three month waiting period for health care coverage when you arrive, If you are, you will have to cover the costs of all medical treatment yourself during the three month period or puchase insurance to cover these costs (which won't be possible for the cancer care since it's a pre-existing condition).

In terms of receiving the health care she needs, she would first need to meet with a family doctor who would then refer her to a specialist for treatment. It can take time for the referal process to complete, so she should meet with the family doctor and get the referal as soon as she arrives. If she requires regularl (e.g. weekly) treatments, then I would recommend that she not come to Canada until these treatments have completed (i.e. she has a break in treatments).

would also add that due to the pandemic the system is not processing people like normal. Most cancer surgeries have been cancelled since March. Did you wife mention her cancer when she did her medical? Did she have to do a medical?

Do you currently have employment that will last for over 6 months?
