Health Insurance Recommendations for Inland Spousal Sponsorship?

Hi. Wife is American. I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for private health insurance companies if she came here and we applied Inland Spousal Sponsorship. Do we buy insurance for 12 months, or can we buy a couple of months at a time.

If you're in BC, you can enrol your wife in MSP for free if you provide proof of payment for her PR application. She'd be covered after two months so you'd only need private insurance for that period. See link

Not sure about other provinces but they might offer something similar so I recommend looking into that first.

In Ontario have to wait for OWP than get a job where you work at least 40 hours a week to get Ohip. The 40 hours has to be with one Employer. If not unfortunately have to wait for AIP Letter. There are companies that sell travel insurance which is expensive & many doctors won't accept. Basically this insurance will cover hospital & select walk in Clinics.
