Hello all,

I have an open work permit that was issued to me in June 2010 for a three year time period after doing my Masters. Last year I got married and my wife has joined me here in Toronto, Canada. I have gone to get her a health card as a dependent and each time I have been given a different reason and been denied. This time they said that my open work permit should have my wife's name on it even though I told them that I had a Marriage Certificate to prove it and how was I to change the fact that I got married on my work permit?? They told me to go to Immigration Canada and get my work permit changed and have my wife's name included.

I am at my wit's end now. I know of other MBA graduates in my batch who have had no such issues with getting a health card issued for their wife. What should I do? Please help!!!

BTW I went to the Service Ontario Center at Yonge and Sheppard.

Think if u hadn't declared her as a "dependent" when u applied, then they don't legally consider her a dependent. (even though she wasn't a dependent at the time u applied)...if she isn't a cdn citizen or a permanent resident, then i think u hv to apply to CIC to get her added as a dependent, since u got married during the period of ur visa. ?? maybe someone else has ideas?
