Hello
one of my frineds has this issue, I know that US and Canada licenses, one can not keep both, but he argues said he has both but do not use the US one but valid both.

I warned him that consequences could be going to jail or arrested. I wanted to show him this post, just wanted to get someone else's view?
please who ever agrees just say Yes. Thank you all for reading and agreeing with me.

Are you talking about driver's licenses?

In which case they are given out by the province or state where you live. We don't usually refer to them as Canadian or American.

Not really sure what this has to do with family immigration.

PS I held two driver's licenses for a few years.

In Alberta it is illegal to have a second driving license from any jurisdiction, American or Canadian, valid or expired -- you can get quite a substantial fine if you're pulled over and the cop sees them when you fumble around in your wallet.

Yeah, I think it's ridiculous -- but at the same time, nothing that I might want a second license for is totally legal or ethical, so what can you say?

Believe it or not it was more a transition period between Alberta and Quebec. Nothing unethical. It beat running off to the DMV every time I moved.

It's not that hard to get two licenses if you have lived in certain US states. Some states allow you to renew by mail, so they mail you a new license with the same picture and new expiration date.

When you move to a new state, you hand one of the licenses, keep the other. They issue you a new license. Presto, you have 2 DLs from 2 different states, although one is expired.

I have two licenses - an expired from Georgia and a valid from Ohio because of these policies. The expired GA license is nothing more than a memento of warmer weather and a former piece of my life. I keep it in a drawer and I'm sure I'll toss it one of these days.

(I don't know if its possible to hand in the expired DL and keep the current one and I don't care to find out!)

In Ontario? YES. It's very illegal.
