Hello,

I have to apply for a study permit now – the courses begin at september 4th in Montréal. But when I submit the application, on the documents it will be written "single", which is not true for a long time. I will marry my french fiancée the 26th of July (I am german by the way). The embassy told me that it will be better if we apply at the same time if we're married or in a common-law union (which is not the case).

So for me the documents are all good, I got my lettre of acceptance and everything is ready. But she will need to wait a little bit, because she has to find a job in canada prior to applying for an open work permit. When we're married, will it be no problem for her to join me in Canada? I'd like to shorten the time of separation the most possible. :)

I know that for people with almost no money and job experience it is difficult to get an open work permit. She has finished her studies and is a freelance graphic designer. In this field only a portfolio can prove your expertise, there are no real references – especially if you're doing art. What is the best way for us to manage this situation? Should she come to Canada just with a temporary resident visa (which will be no problem I think when we're married), or should she wait in Europe until she finds a job?

I am looking forward to your answers. The embassy telephone robot just said I should write an email – which I did before and until I didn't get an answer. ::)

Summer greetings from Weimar
