Hello All,

I plan on moving back to Canada after spending the past 14 years in the US. I have credit history, working history, and two engineering degrees. I know that I can acquire my SIN easily, but I was trying to figure out the most efficient way to prove residence. I have an aunt with whom I will be staying with during my transition phase. I also have a Tennessee drivers license, in good standing.

How easy is it to transfer this license to Canadian Drivers License? I will use her address for the ON license.

Thank you for your time!

It is relatively straightforward to change DL's. You just need proof of residence and proof of entitlement to be in Canada. It sounds like you have the latter. For proof of residence--that depends on province--but a piece of official mail, health card, an affidavit from aunt are some ways to do it.

Awesome, thanks! I also have a copy of my driving record from the state and the date of original licensing. I hope that a 20 mph speeding violation ruins my chances.

Cheers!

not for getting the license, though you may have issues with getting reasonable insurance rates. getting insurance in ontario was a nightmare for me because of my record... i had 1 thing on my record that ended up being listed as "At fault", and i ended up being deemed as "high risk". The rates are ridiculous when they consider you high risk. I ended up going with Aviva insurance. They agreed not to count the "at fault" incident and i have a great rate.
