The officer normally sends a letter to update the form. Although sometimes in scenarios such as criminal history. If you hide anything from them then it can result in a 2 year ban from canada for misrepresentation.
If you realised the mustake quickly before the file was deep in processing and corrected it before the officer spotted it then that will be considered good intention and wont be deemd as misrepresentation so you should be fine.
