It's interesting all of the sponsors I've come across so far that have been denied were sponsored themselves or non-Canadian citizens applying to bring in their family to Canada.

Has a legit Canadian citizen ever been denied sponsorship or is it just the spouse that is denied?

I have seen two 'legit Canadians' denied. I assume u mean Canadian born.

One for being on welfare the other for being bankrupt

Yes - if you read through the refusal thread you'll see quite a number of examples where Canadian citizens have been refused. Canadian citizens can be denied as sponsors if they are on welfare or sponsored someone in the past who went on welfare or have a criminality issue or are bankrupt or are living outside of Canada and haven't provided sufficient evidence that they will return to Canada. The applicant portion can be refused if CIC doesn't believe the relationship is genuine - as well as other reasons (e.g. criminality).

Yeah, those are huge red flags.

I was just wondering like an average joe from Kelowna who isn't on welfare or bankrupt. People say that sponsoring your spouse is hard but I've never seen a Canadian citizen be denied sponsorship of their spouse without breaking on of the yes no questions

I think a lot of people say it's "hard" because the paperwork and supporting evidence is a PITA.

Legit Canadians have never been denied . assuming by legit you mean they meet all the requirements .
