Hello!
i'm doing double bachelor IT/Economic right now in Russia
after many hours of reading this forum i got that i need post graduate studies
I've chosen two ways:
1)lambton college - IT+web post graduate diploma(2 years)
2)masters of computer science

I'm afraid that i won't get visa for lambton because of reputation of this college or maybe because it's diploma only

is it hard to study masters in computer science ? because i'm not really software developer, is it hard to write thesis?

can i apply for lambton and if i am rejected in visa can i reapply with masters ?
thank you for your help!

Hi,

As far as students from Indian subcontinent are concerned (and I'm sure it applies to those from Russia too),the CHC has several rules such as the course applied should be of higher or atleast similar level of your present credential (i.e if you are a Bachelor's level degree holder, applying for lower level certificate/diploma programmes 'll surely result in visa rejection) and the course applied to should be in the direct area of your previous study/background or atleast in a related field. (For example if you are BBA degree holder, have 2 years work ex in sales field and you opt for a PG in Hotel management ..then your visa 'll be most probably rejected.) Now you get the point right... One of the most probable reason for such stringent rules is to limit the number of students entering Canada and only accept genuine students..

Saying this, You need to apply for higher credential course in IT/CS/Electronics. Assuming, you are pursuing a Bachelor's degree.... you need to go for a PG level course. It can be a Master's at any of the University or a PG cert./Diploma in any of the Canadian colleges. Hence, you can apply for both the IT+web post graduate certificate(2 years) @ Lambton/ any PG cert/diploma course in IT/related field at any of the Canadian colleges or opt for Master's of CS at any of the Canadian university.

The entry to colleges, are much easier, where you usually need just a min. 3 years Univ. degree/ Diploma and a valid IELTS score of 6.5 overall (with 6 in each band) for admission to PG cert./ diploma programmes. However, entry to Master's programmes at Canadian universities have much higher requirements and most are usually research oriented. One needs a very good academic record, usually complete a 4 years Bachelor's degree (in your field of study) with min 70-75%/ B Average, a valid IELTS score (6.5 or higher) and depending upon the University, one may need GRE and other additional requirements. The entry to most good Canadian universities Master's programmes are usually very competitive, and the top Universities may also provide funding. If you are highly academically oriented, then opting for a Master's degree at the Canadian Universities is the best option. But, if you are not that academically strong, opting for colleges is the easier route. Doing a 2 years PG cert course at any of the recognized colleges (like with this course at Lambton) will give you a 3 years PGWP, but if you could do a master's from a recognized University in Ontario or Sask. province, it would also give you an opportunity to apply directly for PNP nomination and then PR, as per existing rules.

Even though, gaining admission to better Canadian Universities (especially the top ones), definitely increases your chances for getting the visa (as it indicates you being a genuine, academically oriented student) but that doesn't mean getting admission to PG or other Certificate/diploma programmes at Canadian colleges will not get you a visa. No, that's not the case. Getting a visa depends on variety of factors such as overall good academic record (atleast average), good work ex (if any with proof), strong finances/proof of funding, selection of appropriate course in your area of study and credential level, no gaps etc. i.e overall good profile and strong financial position.

yes, you can re-apply again even, if your visa is rejected. People sometimes re-apply even after getting rejection 2-3 times!

To know more about recognized participating colleges/Universities (province wise) as per CIC, visit: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/institutions/participants.asp
You may want to do a detailed research, to look for more options.

So, it's ultimately your decision as to opt for a college PG cert or a Master's degree at a Univ.

Best of Luck.

Hi,

Same level of education..is usually pursued when..say a student from another country holds a Master's degree/PGDM, and that degree/ PG diploma, which is NOT equivalent to Canadian standard... in that case one can again apply for a Master's degree in a University or PG cert/diploma courses at any of the colleges. It really varies, from case to case. But usually, if you have a 3 years Bachelor's degree, you should ideally apply for a PG cert/diploma at Canadian colleges or similar level course at a University (if offered) and if you hold a 4 years Bachelor's degree, then ideally one can apply for either a Master's/PGD at a University (if you have required high grades) or a PG cert/diploma at any of the Canadian colleges.

thank you! in russia we do bachelor for 5 years! :D so waste of time :( so I will apply for PG diploma , I hope it works, because i'm not smart enough to do research in masters :D
