Hello,

I am just looking for some information regarding immigration to Canada. I have a friend who is a postdoctoral fellow at a Canadian University. She has her PhD in psychology from Spain, and has already worked in Canada for a year (as a postdoc), and she has another year to work.

I'm just wondering what her options are in terms of obtaining either permanent residency status, or extending the working visa.

Any information I could pass along would be really great.

Thanks!

I think she can apply for a PR under CEC.....there are others also who are post doc and applied under CEC.
Please wait for others to reply and see.........good luck

If she already has one year of experience as postdoc, tell her to apply for PR under CEC. Take a language test ASAP and file the application after that.

Thank you so much! I will pass this information along.

Do you know if this postdoc experience is considered skilled work?

I guess the other thing to mention is that she is not a psychologist. Rather, has the qualifications to be a professor.

Of course, you need a PhD to be a postdoc. How can that not be skilled work! The tricky part is to pick a right NOC to match her duties.
