So i just wanted to share a bit of my experience. I applied for the second time for a study permit Oct 31st online from Barbados. We are visa exempt and the processing time is a pretty short two weeks right now.
I did it all on my own both tries. The first try i didn't know about these forums and probably didn't do enough research so i didn't do a SOP or submit enough documents. Got refused back in August on the basis of i wont leave Canada at the end of my stay due to my assets and financial situation and proof of being able to support family members accompanying me.
I communicated with the college and changed my start date, then i reapplied and it took a few days, got my wp and sp today 11/7/2018

So. if you are doing any type of work try to include a job letter and/or any pay stubs if you have them.(i work at home in our family business so i provided a letter of verification, and actual photos of what i do. I also explained that i'm a stay at home mom and i'm spending time at home raising my kids and helping with the business)
I sent lots of family photos since i told them my spouse and kids are coming with me. just compressed my files since the photos make them larger. I downloaded a free trial of SODA PDF DESKTOP. It works pretty great and is free for two weeks(14 days) and if it expires you lose the info so save everything you create to your desktop. You can extend free trials by logging out and creating a new profile with a different email address
Send any proof of having a bank account. I didn't have a bank statement so i provided my recent deposit slips ( a bank account in your name is also a tie to your home country and is a requirement here for attaining a US visa. You should show this information regardless of if you are using the account for funds or not.

The family business is my main sponsor therefore i also got a letter of sponsorship. Make sure that your letters are signed and stamped either by the company, or if its a personal letter of support it should be stamped and signed by your local JP or public notary as well as being signed by the sponsor.
Its important that your sponsorship letter contains that the funds are for your studies, the amount that will be given and how it will be paid to yourself or the institution. If you can, try to get the bankers draft, cheque or wire transfer information.

If you have booked your flight show itinerary details.
I noted that I've traveled to the US before and i have also spend a few years in Canada before as well.

Its ideal to apply for these permit documents from your home country.
Alwayssss tell them if you have been refused a visa or permit before. Tick yes on the application and mention it in your letter.

I wrote my explanation letter. It was not in any particular format. It was just me being honest about my goals, my everyday life. Why i chose Canada to study. Why this career path. Spoke about my family situation.
Be yourself, be honest. Visa Officers have rules and guidelines on what they can and cannot accept however they are human and they can relate and empathize. Everyone has their own story so just tell yours.
As we all should know, hint at returning home, how you will miss it there and miss your friends and family.
DO NOT! mention working in Canada, living in Canada etc.
I also added my hubby's work documents and a separate letter in proof of funds describing how my available funds will total to what is required by them. I noted that the documents i provided are acceptable per their website and did a breakdown of numbers and noted the exchange rates.
I hope this helps somebody. My family and i will be travelling on November 21st. Hoping for a ' White Xmas' lol.
GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!! HOPE YOU GET YOURS VERY SOON!
