I am the sponsor and my husband has dual American/UK citizenship. We applied for his PR and our app was filed on January 10th, 2012. I was approved as the sponsor on March 20th from CIC-M and my husband's app is now on it's way to Buffalo.

Currently we are in Asia (been here since November 2011) where we came to wait out the visa process together. My issue is that I am getting rather homesick (among some health issues) and want to return to Canada sooner.

My question is whether my husband could come to Canada in a few months, before he is granted PR. As mentioned, our visa office is Buffalo, so we could potentially be looking at another 11 months (according to CIC processing times).

So is it possible for him to come wait out the rest of the app processing time in Canada with me? An area of concern is that he has not actually lived in the US (where he was born) for several years, so is not really able to show any ties to America. Moreover, if he left Asia, it would entail quitting his job, so he wouldn't be able to show he has ties here either (not to mention his resident visa here is tied to his job, so if he quit, that would result in the end of his resident visa).

Would a return ticket, or an onward to ticket to the US be sufficient to show an officer at the border??

Is it a pipe dream I am having.. or is it possible? And if so, any advice would be appreciated!

It is possible, and your husband being visa-exempt does help a lot. Having an onward ticket for some time after arrival in Canada might help. Simply be honest about the PR application, the fact that he is coming with you and will likely be waiting out the rest of his processing in Canada. I'm not sure how many belongings you have since you are residing in Asia but you might want to hold off on bringing the entire lot with you on this trip before his PR is confirmed.
