Hi all,

I am going to apply for common-law sponsorship for my Iranian common-law around March 1st (We started living together last year March 1st). She has been in Canada as a student for 5 years. I have a few questions based on your experiences:

1. How long I should expect it to take roughly? I am going to apply as Outside Canada so that she can travel whenever she wants.
2. I am going to add common-law status to CRA and also I am going to add her as beneficiary in my employment insurance. Anything else I should do to make the case strong?
3. We do not have joint lease since it is not applicable in our case, should I put explanation about every item I did not provide in the application checklist?
4. Should I send history of all of our communication or should I just send a snapshot?

Thanks in advance,

1. Approximately a year although longer is possible.
2. You will need to provide other evidence of cohabitation that shows you've lived together for a full year. Examples include joint leases, letter from landlord if that's not available, joint bank accounts / credit cards, joint utilities, etc.
3. See above. You need other evidence of cohabitation.
4. Select a few samples.
