We finally sent our pr and sponsorship application along with the open work permit application back in June. In august the government sent me a visitor visa valid for a year from that day, and in the mean time I'm going insane with boredom since visitors aren't allowed to work. my question is this, if I try and find a job that provides an lmo how will it effect the process of the sponsorship if at all? Will it be frowned upon by the government, since the whole application and the lengthy process is designed to prove that my husband can fully provide for me.

Anyone else in my position? How do you pass the time?

The whole application and lengthy process is NOT designed to prove that your husband can fully provide for you. Not sure where you got that idea, but it's not true.

If you can find an employer who can get a positive LMO for you, applying for a work permit will not adversely affect your PR process. However, you might find it a bit challenging to apply for the work permit because you are in Canada and the application has to be processed through the overseas embassy. In order to finalize the temporary work permit process, you have to enter Canada from overseas - but leaving Canada when you have an inland PR application in process is risky.

My advice: be patient. Do some volunteer work or take some short courses (less than 6 months duration) at your local college to help with the boredom while you wait out your OWP. When you get that, you'll be able to go to work for anybody, anywhere without all the hassle of labour market opinions, reams of paperwork and trips outside the country. In this process we have to focus on the positives: the two of you are together and you are authorized to legally stay in Canada (albeit only as a visitor) until you have been approved for first stage and your OWP issued. That's a better spot to be in than a lot of other applicants.
