Hi,

I want to open a GIC account in Scotia bank. I am a citizen of Nepal but right now I am working in India. My account in Indian bank has communication address which is my temporary address in India. But as i am from Nepal, my passport will have my permanent address. While i am trying to open account, for country of residence i can only choose India. Even though i change my bank address as per my address in passport, i will have to choose India as country of residence as there are only four countries available in the drop-down. So, will there be a problem for me ? Please help me on this. Any suggestion will be appreciated. Thanks.

As long as they are not asking about your Nationality , country of Origin, Citizenship or any other question regarding which country you are a citizen of, you should be fine.

Country of residence means the country which you live, not which you are a citizen of. As a Nepali citizen , you can reside without paperwork and thus you can be consider India as you country of residence, provided that you are studying/working in India, and not simply visiting.

I though the GIC program was for Citizens of India, Vietnam, China and Philippines only ? Have you checked with Scotiabank ?

I don't think you would qualify for GIC program in any bank, since you are not a citizen of the 4 countries mentioned, however you can always try.
