Hi,

I wanted to ask if anyone knows what the situation is like in terms of receiving a working holiday visa while in Canada as a tourist. I have flights booked and I do not think my visa will come through by then. Do you think its possible to go there as a tourist and receive the approval while I am there and get the social insurance number etc.

Any advice would be very useful as I do not want to have to change my flights multiple times!

Thanks

Sure you can arrive as a visitor although of course there is no guarantee your authorised stay would be long enough to wait out getting your IEC POE letter. If visa exempt you will of course need an ETA in advance of the one that will eventually be issued with the POE letter.

Assuming you do get your POE letter you will need to flagpole at the US/Canada border and meet the same conditions for the IEC work permit to be issued . So full term travel insurance for the term for your country, proof access to 2500CDn minimum and a passport that has validity beyond the permit term.

Once you have your IEC work permit you will need to attend a Service Canada office to obtain your SIN.

Assuming you take travel insurance as a visitor which obviously would be bad idea not to you will need to either guess when your IEC permit will expire or when you plan to flagpole buy a new policy for which you will need a company who will sell a policy to someone already travelling. The policy must cover repatriation as well as medical so not sure if any companies in Canada that cover both. If you do not have travel insurance for the IEC program your permit will either not be issued or issued only to the expiry date of the insurance .
