By the way, just out of curiosity...why not Ontario PNP if you're a Masters or PhD student?
nevillek said:What happens if my PGWP runs out before receiving PR through the Ontario PNP as a Master's grad because I believe:
1) Ontario PNP has a fixed limit of 1000 nominees a year and it's very stringent/competitive now so who knows how long one has to wait until he's even nominated
2) Getting PR even after nomination takes a LOT of time
The course I want to study in Ontario (Uni of Windsor) is "Master of Management: Intl Acctg/Finance" whose duration is as follows: "You will study and live in Canada for approximately 16 months. This program includes 12 prescribed courses completed over 4 academic terms."
So if I'm not wrong, I believe I'd get a 16 mnth work permit after completion of the course in/around December 2014. Right? So if I apply for the Ontario PNP in early 2015, will I 100% get my PR before my 16 mnth PGWP expires? I have high doubts.
Even my friend who did a 1 yr PGDM from an Ontario college moved to Alberta after getting a job there during his 1 yr PGWP and is going to apply under Alberta's PNP because of the same reason. But I can't find any more information on this so I'm assuming it's better to go for another route too instead of Ontario PNP. But maybe I'm wrong and you could help me understand it better since you seem knowledgeable about it?
ameet747 said:In my opinion, that should not be an issue because CIC gives you a bridging open work permit just in case your PR file is not finalized by it before your PGWP expires. Here's the link where it says that:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/bulletins/2012/ob406.asp
It also says that on the Ontario PNP's website, under 'news and updates'...from July 23, 2012.
To be honest, I am a current Master's student in Ontario right now. My program shall finish in September and then I will apply for nomination as well as PGWP. I am relying on this bridging work permit just in case my PGWP is about to run out and I still haven't received the PR. For this very reason, I am not concerned about the 1000 quota for Ontario. If you check their website, the quota for 2012 only got filled up around the 4th quarter of 2012 so that it means it's not a hopeless process. Moreover, their website says that submission of the nomination package GUARANTEES the processing irrespective of the year you apply in. It's not like Ontario doesn't want more immigrants, it's just that the Federal govt. is not increasing their quota as it has for other provinces. However, there are strong chances and rumours that the quota for Ontario will be increased from 1000 to 5000 from 2014. I may be wrong about this though.
