getting a temp work permit while waiting for outland PR application

I have just filed my outland application for PR (US citizen, sponsored by spouse). I'm currently visiting Canada and I have a visitor record. I have a job in the US that I work for remotely. I have been asked by a Canadian government agency to do some short-term consulting work for them on the side.

Is it possible to get a work permit for this kind of work given my situation? I am uniquely suited for this contract and my profession is listed on the NAFTA list of labour market opinion-exempt countries. I'm not sure if that matters.

Anyone know?

If you have a written offer of employment from the agency, and definitely do not require a LMO, it's quite simple. As you already have documented status (the visitor record), you can just submit an application to change the conditions of your stay - i.e. apply for a work permit from within Canada.

If you need it sooner than Vegreville is likely to process it (currently 27 days), you can also just go to the border, double back, and apply for the work permit on re-entry to Canada. (Be 100% certain you have all the necessary documentation to prove you're eligible for the work permit if you do that though!)

Excellent news, thanks!! Do you think they are likely to issue me one? I will have a letter offering the employment. The office I would be working for has an immigration consultant that they have put me in touch with who I'm sure will help me get all of the necessary documentation (but I haven't spoken with him yet).

It's great that it could be so fast. I think they want me to start ASAP so if I can go to the border, that would be excellent.

I have a very similar question about this topic. I also filed an outland application to CPC-M for PR (Irish citizen sponsored by Canadian spouse) 2 months ago. We just received a letter to say that my husband has been deemed eligible as a sponsor and our file has been sent to the UK to be processed by the Canadian visa office there - I hear some people refer to this as AIP status. We're a very straight forward case as we've been married for almost 8 years and have no children. However the London Canadian Visa webpage cites that it normally takes approx 6 months to process a family sponsorship PR application assuming everything goes smoothly.
I got a little fed up of being in Ireland on my own so I am currently visiting my husband in Canada, but would like to apply for a temporary work visa while I'm here. The job situation in Ireland is dismal at the moment so I've no job or accomodation to go back to there. However while I'm here in Canada I'm dependent on my husband to take care of me. It would make life much easier on both of us if I were able to work temporarily in Canada while I'm awaiting news of the PR application.
From what I've read on this forum I would not be able to apply for a temporary work permit while waiting for news on an outland application for PR. However, I am a college graduate and under 35 so would I be able to apply for a working holiday/youth mobility programme visa OR for an open work permit while my PR application is being processed? Or does anyone know if there's another way I could be able to work in Canada temporarily?
Any help or insights are very much appreciated.

Nerak2010 can you give me more information about what you read that said that you can't apply for temp. work permit while waiting out outland PR application?

If I find any more information out (or if I'm successful in getting a permit at the border ) then I will let you know what happens!!!
