Hi Friends,

Just want to share my experience regarding this, My application was submitted on the last week of Feb 2011 and mine processing was going pretty fast, by July I already had Medical Request and by August the line " Medical Results have been received " line was added in the ecas. Me and my wife was thinking it could be only a matter of time before we got PPR, but then 2 months went nothing happened.

Being worried that my PPR might be lost , I sent an enquiry to my VO asking the reason for delay of PPR, after a month they got back to me saying that my "RCMP Clearance certificate is pending" , RCMP : Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Then I figured out that because my wife stayed in Canada for 10 years before our marriage she needs to get the "RCMP Clearance" . Actually before only in certain cases the VO asks for this, but nowadays its kind of Mandatory that if any of the applicant lived in canada for more than 6 months, you are supposed to submit this.

The problem is that the RCMP clearance certificate takes 4 months to process, so we applied that in early early , eagerly waiting by the end of next month.

So my advise is if any of the applicant spend more that 6 months in Canada, just apply for the RCMP Clearance certificate once you got your PER as its free of cost and dont wait for VO to ask for it. you can say 4 months of processing time....well its not that long to wait....but its good not to wait either..

Hey Charlie, thanks a lot for this information. I lived in Canada for 4 years before and I never thought I would need an RCMP clearance letter.. Now does it really take 4 months to process? I became aware it was much less than this? I was also aware that not everyone needed one?

Thanks,

Mario

3 business days or less
Electronic fingerprint submission

Wow from 4 months to 3 days it's a huge difference! What does the waiting time depend on? By the way I'm not in Canada so I will not be doing electronic finger print submission.

hi master 7

As Willem mentioned if u are in Canada and visiting Canada soon then it's better to do the electronic finger frints, which is processed in 3 days, however if u are outside Canada then u have to take your fingerprints from a police station or any accredited agency and send to Ottawa, and it takes 4 months of proceessing.

Yes the timeline is ridiculous and the processing time is worst than of a third world country. I was shocked actually, but that's the rule , so we have to go through that, that's why it's better to apply it after u get your PER so that you don't waste any time.

Cheers
Charlie

Thank you for the clarification Charlie.
Good luck on your application.

One last question, how long after you have filed your application can you file RCMPs clearance letter? Does it have to be right with the first application? Or can you submit them later?

Hi Master 7,

You cannot submit it at the beginning because you might not be able to ask for this certificate. You can only do this after you received the file no, then you have to take finger prints from your police HQ and send it to ottawa, with the details of you name, File no and which VO you belong to.

After 4 months the RCMP from ottawa will send this clearance certificate directly to your VO. So you would never have a change to physically see it .

Hope this helps

cheers
