My wife and I are getting ready to travel back to Hong Kong and decide to bring our son to Canada. We are still waiting for the permanent residence application from CIC, but people said once you have the file#, we can bring our son to Canada while waiting for the application. We had brought three one way flight tickets from Hong Kong to Calgary, and just want to ask do we need to prepare anything for the Custom before we get onto the plane? Will airline allow my son travel with one way ticket without permanent residence card?

Beg for your help!!!

Most airlines are reluctant to allow someone with no status in a country to purchase a one-way ticket to a country, because they would be obliged to return the person at their expense if they are not allowed into that country. With that said, you are talking about a minor child, accompanied by his parents who have status in said country, so maybe they will not have as much trouble with it.

What you need to do, is call the airline and ask them.

Also, as an HK citizen, your son is visa-exempt and can visit for up to 6 months. Keep the information regarding your application for his PR status handy, such as the approval to sponsor, any recent emails from the embassy, etc. This will help you at Customs and Immigration.
