Hi there,

I would like to get information about length of the post graduate work permit, What will be the PGWP duration after completion of 1 year (2 semesters program , Ontario College Certificate). Program will be started in September 2016 and completed at the end of May 2017. I guess this is a controversial issue , there are a lot of information about this issue in personal experience based. 1 year work permit is certain or not ???

Thanks in advance

Have a very good weeks to everyone

If it's a full time one year course at a certified school you will be issued a 1 year PGWP. Just make sure the course is at least 8 months and your institution is authorized (which I think it is).
Best if you contact the international services at your college and ask about.

And on the second note, when you receive your PGWP after your studies, make sure you work from day 1 to the last day to get eligble for CEC stream.

Best of luck,

Also think about the next steps after school. From the trend here, one year work experience is no guarantee for an ITA. You don't want to start running helter skelter looking for ways to extend your stay here in Canada. So it's best you look for a slightly longer course than can fetch you a 2 year PWGP.

Best of luck!

And I couldn't agree more with BA2LAMAZ's comment!

Getting a one year work permit is a lot of stress. I did it, and trust you me, if I knew back then I would have got a longer course to land at least a 2 year visa.

Good luck,

Thank you both of you guys. Actually this is also about financial situation that I can not afford 2 years program included all other expenses at this moment. Just because of this situation, I am looking for a certain procedue about PGWP for 1 year (2 semesters) program.

The PGWP for a program that lasts more than 8 months but less than 2 years is limited to the actual length of the program.
CIC is not very consistent on that but what it means is that normally you will be limited to the actual length of studies (i.e. 8 months (or 9 based on when you start and finish the program)). Some people received a 1 year PGWP for a 1 year two terms program but that is not the rule and unless you have also some co-op term as part of the program or something in the last 4 months of the year, there is no guarantee that your PGWP will be of one year (therefore you won't qualify for CEC).

Yes you are right , there will be no guarantee, but according to my research I havent seen anybody who completed 2 semester program obtain 8 9 10 months PGWP. I guess there is a common procedure applied by CIC to these kind of programs. Secondly , it may depend on what written on your letter of acceptance sent by a school. If school is indicated, this is a 1 year program LOA , PGWP will be provided according to that.

Thank you very much
