Hi all,
Is the generic study visa and general study are the same with different names ? Or both are dif

There is no such thing, there is only one study permit. Canada does not give a study visa, only a permit.

If you are from India, Vietnam, China or the Philippines. Then you are eligible for Study Direct Stream program (SDS). This shortens the requirements and a reduced processing time of 45 days, instead of 60 ( in most cases ).

The only variance with regards to study permit is if you have a co-op work permit. This is given to students who have to work in an organization as part of their studies. The only difference is, is that a person with a co-op work permit can work full time during their co-op.

In this forum, in countries with the SDS program, we refer to the regular, slower process as general, however they are the same study permit that you get.

Yes, thanks. This clarifies my doubt that both study are just the same, but the requirements are different. In my case my institute dont want me to do ielts. So im asked to go for generic permit by vfs thats y i had a doubt that general and generic permit are both the same names ?

Are you looking at private schools? Would encourage you to apply for public schools.

Requirements are less in SDS but permit is the same. I would suggest you do IELTS.

The course im planning to do will be only available in private institutes. But what is the reason for your suggestion to go for a public school ? I would like to know. Is there any benefits ?

But i feel general permit has less requirements than sds. General dont need ielts or payment for the 1st year fee initally like sds. Why do you say sds requirements are less than general ? May i know, please.

Private institutions have a bad reputation in Canada. Public institutions are much better.

You are talking about monetary requirements. Take a look at the documents required, and you will find the documents required for SDS are less than what I'd required for general.

You can go for SDS as long as your institute has a DLI number.

Oh so the documents needed for general is more than sds ? What are the documents required for general ? I think only a Loa, medicals and proof of funds are required. Anything more will be asked ?
