Hi! My fiance is a Canadian Citizen, but has been living in the US for 12 years. His parents brought him here when he was 13. I am a US citizen. We have one child together, and I have a child on my own. We are not married, but are planning on it.
We are thinking of moving back to BC, where his family is.
What steps would we need to take? Where to we begin I guess...and would it be better if we are married?
Thank you for your help!!!

As long as he is a born Canadian or naturalized Canadian, your child is already a Canadian citizen too. You just have to get proof of that, see http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/citizenship/proof.asp

As for you, he would have to sponsor you for PR. As a citizen, he can apply to sponsor you without moving to Canada first if he can sufficiently prove to immigration that you are planning on moving to Canada when you get your PR. Such proof could be having arranged housing, being accepted to college, job offer or something like that.

If you have a hard time proving that, you can also wait to apply for you until he moves to Canada. You can not officially move until you get your PR but you can stay with him as a visitor.

In addition to the above you would also have to apply for the child you have on your own, you would have to have sole custody or atleast written permission from that child's father that he is ok with the child relocating to Canada.
