Hello Everyone.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and hopefully any responses.

I just want some clarification or advice really on what to do. I'm a permanent resident of Canada and have just moved back after university and I am currently living back with my parents to make some money back and get back on my feet.

The issue i'm having is I really want to have my girlfriend out here and she really wants to move out here as well. She's just graduated as well we've been together 2 and a half years now and have lived together. She's hoping to come out in September after working and making some money to afford the flights.

My question is what would be the best visa to apply for? We're quite happy to do a visitors visa while we sort out something more permanent but I don't know which is best to apply for for us to be together long term.

Sorry for having such a vague question but there's just so much information on the sites and I don't want to get to over my own head or apply for the wrong one and waste time, so if anybody has any advise or suggestions it would be greatly appreciated and i'm happy to offer more information to help clarify the situation.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Presuming your girlfriend is from a non visa exempt country (Can you provide more details?), is she able to prove strong ties to her homeland? Without that, there is a slim chance she will be successful applying for a Temporary Resident Visa. If you have lived together for one full year, with adequate proof of shared resources and living arrangements, perhaps sponsoring her under the commonlaw route would work. I don't know what evidence you have to show of being established and, as you indicated you are resuscitating your bank account by moving back home, this might be a challenge. See what suggestions others have to offer.

Hey thank you so much for replying.

She is from the UK as well, born and raised there. We have lived together for one year but never really shared resources as far as banking and other joint name accounts ago except for on the house rental lease.

Understandably this is going to be quite difficult with us both resuscitating our bank accounts. I will have a look down the common law route or into a working visa because she also is an accomplished snowboarder and hopes to one day teach snowboarding so hopefully I can look into that route.

Again if anyone has any experience in that then any advice would be a great help.

Thank you for your views and Thank you Pippin for your advice :)

OK...I read your post and thought, well THAT'S easy....she can come to visit without a visa and stay 6 months. They can set up their lives together.....etc.....then I realized she wouldn't be able to work. Assuming you are both young (not aware of too many aging snow board instructors), has she looked into the 1 year work programmes? Is it BUNAC? As you can tell this isn't something I've had any experience with. Gosh, compared to those living in the non visa exempt countries you two have it SO EASY, lol, you must be able to make it work somehow. All the best.
