I was asked to cross into Canada so that we could spend some time as a family. I would like to go up there with my children in the next month but worried this will be an issue with the border guards. I would fly with them and have a return ticket. I did get a visitor record once in my four crossings but this last time at Pearson just spoke with the immigration desk and was let through.
Do you think they would let me take the children for the impromptu family reunion?

Yes.

I wonder if I go with proof of his illness if it will make it easier? We just want to be able to spend some time as a family for a week or so and his prognosis is less than three months. Which I was just there for three weeks in January so maybe if I wait a month and then fly there...I don't know.

I would make sure that you have a copy of your lease/mortgage or whatever ties you to home. You need to show them you won't over stay. It will all work out ;D

The problem is I do not have a "job" nor lease/mortgage. So proof of ties would be slim however my son will be staying back in the states with his father since he has school. I could bring my car title, and show future dr. appts, don't know if that will hold enough weight.

I wonder if your doctor wrote a note specifying what your illness is and when your appointments are and the necessity that you don't miss them would help? I would like to think they would take that seriously.

Also, pack light :)

Well my daughter is in therapy and we have weekly visits together and a care plan contract. So perhaps having that would help. Plus I will be enrolling her in pre-school and will have that also.

Return tickets will probably be enough. And you will need a letter from the children's father to cross the border with them. He could indicate the date of your return in that letter.

I have a letter for the year of 2011 from him but may get one with a date on it. Not sure I really need a letter though as I have sole physical and legal custody of the girls. I may just have him write a new one though once I know when we will be traveling.
