Seniors,

1.How are the job opportunities for this course?
2.What can you study next apart from doing the PMP certification course and ahead, I mean are there masters or so ?
3. What are the starting positions offered to students on graduation?

If anyone else would like to add points, please go ahead. let's get a proper view of the prospects ahead.

My advise is : Unless you have real work experience in managing projects (or real good connections), don't expect to find a job in the manager level. Come to Canada and switch your program of study. Certificates means nothing without experience.

Kvn,

Thank you for replying.

But I should say that someone with 3 years work experience would not expect themselves to land a PM position immediately. Landing an analyst role and then climbing the ladder would be the way, i believe. Considering that my question should have been more specific: I would like to know how it goes from there. I would like to know what start up opportunities are given to someone who is already open to the project atmosphere and its working. Also, to add I do agree with you that connections serve as a bonus. So does hard work and talent. :)

Hi sage,

I don't know about the job market in your field but what I do know is that most employers look for Canadian work experience. So if you can find internships/co-op/field placements for your targeted field of study, the higher your chances of finding a job after graduation.

Secondly, if you can, transfer to a university. Not only does it catches the recruiter's attention, the job opportunities available in universities is way way higher. I know this because I've uni friends and I've seen their job postings (50x than what my college posted..yes 50x).

And yes hard work helps but it can only take you so far(not saying you won't succeed). I worked hard to get A+'s in most of my courses plus lots of self-learning just to get noticed by the big companies(of which most of them ignored me). So in colleges, you have to be on top of your game + more to get your chance at big companies which btw you have to apply by yourself. Meanwhile uni students just need to log in their uni job board and all the big companies are already there.(not saying it's easy for them either, in fact, much harder but the opportunities are there).

Sorry to be a downer, but that's my experience here in Can. Better to face reality than to come to Can with stupid fantasies (referring to me) and then having to destroy it and replan.

I appreciate your honesty. But I know not of many universities that offer PM course except for TRU.

Luckily for me I do have an internship program at the end of my course. Hoping that keeps my boat sailing. I shall consider your advise. Thank you very much.

Oh I didn't say you have to take PM in other uni's. You yourself have recognized that you won't start at the manager's level after graduation but somewhere as an analyst. So look for the appropriate program that teaches them.

but yes if you do college, i suggest searching for your internship 4 months before start, that's usually the time frame when companies starts hiring(example: jan internship, apply from sept). And before that, start researching the different companies here and maybe even begin polishing your resume/cover letter for each company.

check this link out, that's the sad reality many college students face. I know many of my friends in this situation too and then having/planning to resort to these extreme measures. so plan in advance.
