Asking for a friend.

My friend worked 20 hours part time for 2.5 year and when we converted it to full time it came out to be 1.6 years so he added 1 year of foreign work experience. Is the calculation correct?

20 hours * 52 week/year * 2.5 years/1560 (hours equivalent to full time) = 1.6 years.

Please verify @shannonxtreme & others.

The calculation seems right but foreign experience? The hourly calculation is applicable to Canadian work experience only, I think.

Thanks. I didn't get your point.

You get 15 or 20 points for foreign work experience if you have worked full time or equivalent part time.

Not sure what you mean by "added foreign work experience." You cannot add foreign hours to Canadian hours - foreign and Canadian work experience has to be calculated separately - but that doesn´t seem to be what you did.

But your calculations appear to be roughly correct. You should count the exact number of weeks worked, but it won´t really make a difference. Your friend will get credit for one year of FTE (Canadian?) work , based on what you have shown.

No, foreign and Canadian experience are calculated the same way, just separately.

What I meant to say was that he is calculating his foreign work experience separately and Canadian separately. I think “added” was the wrong term to use .

So he is getting points for his work he did in Australia as foreign (25 points) and also 2 years of canadian experience (guess 40 points). I hope that makes sense and I hope that’s ok to do.

The calculation I showed was only for his foreign work experience where he worked 20 hours/week for 2.5 year.

AH, LOL, makes sense now :)

Yes, it is a good thing to add the foreign work experience. Of course that means he will have to provide documentation.

Clear, now : ) . But again, the denominator in the calculation is the WEEK, not the YEAR. To be precise, you need to describe it in terms of the number of weeks worked.
