Hello All,

I have a question that has stumped me as I simply find no information about it on the CIC website or anywhere else.

I wanted to know if all the government documents issued by my country (Belgium) need to be legalised before I have them translated and submitted to the application center in Sydney Canada.

For example, I have police clearance report from Belgium, marriage certificate and a few other documents issued by my government in Dutch. I was planning on having them translated (the translation itself will include the affedavit from translator as required), but I could not find out if then the original should first be legalised or apostilled.

The Belgian Foreign Affairs Office here can legalize (legalise) documents but is this needed? If so, for which documents is this needed?

I am in the middle of the application process and I believe that originals do not need to be legalised, only the translated versions and any copies of the originals that you want to submit. You most probably figured it out by now, but I wanted to reply. Also, I need help with getting a police clearance from Belgium. Can you please tell me how I can obtain it from Canada? I am not a Belgian citizen, but I lived there for three years. Your help will be much appreciated! Thanks.

Translation is mandatory, and you need documents and declaration from the translator as well.
