My boyfriend's TRV application was just rejected. When he applied, I had my uncle write the letter of invitation because I had read that a girlfriend/boyfriend writing a letter, will result in a refusal. We are planning to get married Spring 2019. I am a Canadian PR. The issue is, we really do not want to spend too long apart. Spousal sponsorship applications from Ghana takes an average of 15 months.

We are now thinking of him applying for PR through the FSW stream, since tht's mostly processed in 6 months or less.

I have 3 questions:

1) Will the TRV refusal affect his PR application?
2) For proof of funds, can he submit our joint account?
3) Is it wiser to go the spousal sponsorship route?

Thank you :)

1) No impact provided he declares the refusal in his application.
2) The funds should be in his name.
3) Depends on how many points he has through Express Entry. Has he calculated his points yet?

Hello Scyllia,

Thank you for your quick response.

Our joint account has both our names. Should we transfer the funds to his personal account and then at for 6 months to submit, since they require bank statement for the past 6months?
He hasn't entered the pool yet. Based on the CRS calculator, is points are 441 applying as a single person.
