Hi guys,

I need some advice from you guys.

I activated my IEC visa on January 17th when I arrived in Vancouver (now I"m based in Calgary).

About 2 weeks after I received my Letter of Introduction back in September, Harper said they'll increase the NZ visa to 23 months. ......but of course NZers who's been issued the letter cannot participate again and can't get an extension to 23 months. So there's that.

I am currently working full time under NOC 2175.

Since I obviously won't have enough time on my work permit to gain 1 full year of canadian work experience to apply for CEC , it leaves only 2 other options : FSW and LMIA.

My company has said they'll help with my paperwork, but honestly I'm not gonna bank on that. They've already filed an LMIA for the guy sitting next to me (90 page PDF !! ), paid fees etc ...only for it to be rejected because they forgot to advertise in the job bank. They are currently re-applying for him. ...I'm going to talk to them about my paperwork very soon, but LMIA is the 2nd option to be honest.

So this leaves FSW and if I've counted correctly I have 68/100 points ...IF I get CLB-9 on my upcoming IELTS test (how difficult would it be to get CLB-9 ? )

Could you guys confirm this for me:

Age - 24 years old

Education - BSc Compsci from UoAuckland

Work - in NZ 2 years and 3 months in total (the thing is , I worked at my first post-uni job for 8 straight months, then moved on to my next job the next day without a gap and worked there for 1 year 7 months til January 17th 2015, ...will that count as continuous and 2 years ??? ...it says on the FSW req that it must be in ONE occupation....as in one employer ??)
Also, can my Canadian experience be added towards Express Entry points? So say in October when I"ll have been working in Canada for 9 months ...my total overall experience will be 3 years ...

English - I pretty much have to get CLB - 9 (7 in reading, writing, speaking and 8 in listening) to get above 67 points for FSW.

Status - not married, single

I'm honestly not sure if I'll get invited in time this year through EE. The cutoff is 453pt right now but it might drop or increase at anytime. And they might stop the draws if they've reached the quotas for 2015 (they have alot of inventory from Pre-EE days).

My IEC expires Jan 16th 2016.

Thanks in advance guys :)

Hey fellow kiwi

Firstly if you are in the kia ora vancouver group then we have probably already chatted. My suggestion is a scastter gun approach. Do both the fsw and lmia.

You will easily get 9 on ielts all i would suggest is lestening to the practice tests online and be prepared to talk shit about a topic folr a couple of mins for the speaking. If your not super quick weith coming up with short discussion points then practice weith a friend. I had to talk for two mins on a peice of music i remebered from my childhood.

For you express entry application yoj will probably have around 430 points(there is a calculastor you can use) im on 410 but am married and my wife hasnt done ielts or has a degree.

I suggest doing both because the ee way can take some time so you dont want tok be like me and have your comolany pull out of PNP (have you tried that route) and keave you with 3 months to scramble to get a wes and ielts for ee.

Good luck sadly ill be heading home in june this year. I should have applied for the old fsw before i even left new zealand :(

By the way, it is very unlikely that this is going to happen.

CIC will not unexpectedly reach some sort of quota because they are now in full control of applications:

- EE applications can only be made following an ITA, and they know in advance how many ITAs they can give out so as not to exceed the immigration targets (this is the whole point of the EE system)
- CIC no longer accept applications directly for FSW, so the backlog from previous years is also known (and doesn't change)

You can therefore safely assume that the current rate of ITAs will be maintained (if not exceeded) for the rest of the year simply because there is no uncertainty about the number of applications they will receive in the future.

Thanks for the reply Dan.

I"m pretty disappointed that the EE Threshold points have gone up again to 469.
As it stands right now, with the profile I gave in my initial post in this topic, I can only gain a max of 404 points if I get CLB9 in my English test.

Do you think the points will drop that low at all this year ??

Also, I just want to make sure that I actually qualify under FSW (regardless of EE) , could you help me confirm this ?

Will I get the 2 years of foreign experience (which CIC states must be continuous and in ONE occupation only) credited to me :

October 2012 - July 15th 2013 - Employer A (NZ) NOC 2175
July 16th 2013 - January 15th 2015 - Employer B (NZ) NOC 2175

And I am not even sure if my Canadian exp will count, I can't even get a full year on my current WHV visa.
Feb 23rd 2015 - Current (Visa expires Jan 2016). NOC 2175

I can maybe bump up my points abit if I get a certificate from a canadian institute (this is for education points) , since you get more points for "2 or more certs/dips/bachlors of which 1 is at least 3 years long" ...i already have a BSc from Auckland Uni.
BUTTTTT......I'm not even sure when I should apply for entrance to the classes since some of them have year long waiting list. With my visa expiring in Jan 2016.....I'm at a dilemma. :(

Hello, mikek27 :)!

I have the same situation with work like you. Was your work in NZ calculated as 2 years?

Thank you in advance!
