Hello Everyone,

Does anyone here applied as FSW to Canada from the US having F1 student status? Anyone in that case has been approved already?

Please share experiences and ideas. How long does it take to finish the process and getting approved.

Thank you,

Skilledpro

i am applying on a F1. still in process. I am sure there have been people who have had their FSW immigration approved using F1 under the old rules. Of course, they must have gotten enough points.

Do you have work experience? How many points do you get on the canadian immigration system.

Hi Rupeshhari,

Self-assessment, i got 67. i have 9 years work experience in the IT field.

did you receive AOR? how long did it take to get one?

Regards,

I got my AOR from Sydney within 30 days of me sending my application to them.
I also got my AOR from my visa office, this was about 3 weeks after I had sent in my documentation to them.

Hello Rupesh,

I just posted this question on another thread. Kindly enlighten.

I am a TA at a US university (F1 visa) and applied for fsw after feb 2008 to buffalo. According to ecas, my application is still in process.

In the interim, I also applied to schools in Canada. If I get admitted, I heard that getting a student visa will be difficult. Is this true? Alternatively, someone suggested that instead of applying for student visa directly, I should apply for TRV, visit Canada and then apply for change of status to as student visa. Is this possible? I have been to Canada before and want to start my life and career there.

Thank you.

i am not sure about TRV or even much about student visa. My only experience with Canada has been the FSW application so far. Lets wait for someone to answer this for you. I am sure someone will answer.

For student visa, you do have to show funds and all that but you also have to make them believe that you have strong ties to your homeland and will leave at the end of your visa. I don't know how many people they deny or if it's better if you are on a visit visa first.

It is possible to get to Canada with a TRV and apply for a change of status as student so far as you enroll in a school. I am not sure what your chances are as a student because of your FSW application. The success of both applications depends on how much you can proof that you have strong ties with your home, but your chances of getting a TRV is higher because you have been to Canada previously. By the way, on your previous visit to Canada, did you leave the country on or b4 the expiry of your permit?

Thanks Rupesh, Leon and Tarry,

I left Canada well before my TRV expired..I was on holiday then, no worries, no stress:-) I read on some forums that people in the USA use change of status when they are laid off from H1b while waiting for their FSW to come thru. It seems like a straightforward and easy process. So, I was wondering if I could enter Canada on a TRV and apply for change of status from inside itself. If this is possible, is it a matter of paperwork or would I have to go for an interview? Kindly enlighten.

Thank you all.

If it is as you informed, then you have good chances of getting a PRV. I guess you will not be interviewed but this is at the discretion of the officer who will be handling your application, but because you have been to Canada before, probably you will not be interviewed.

Good luck :)

Thanks Tarry.

I do not think I will have difficulty in getting TRV for visiting Canada. What I am concerned about is if I enter Canada on TRV and try to change status to student, then
1) will I have to leave Canada and come back to the US for an interview
2) can I just stay inside Canada and file the change of status paperwork
I am not sure if there will be an interview inside Canada for change of status from TRV to student visa (there isn't one in the US when we change from F1 to F2 or F1 to H1B).

1, Short answer as a visitor in Canada you cannot apply for a change to study permit.
2. If an interview is required and you apply at a US office, the interview will be in the US.
3. US and Canada are two different countries with different Immigration Acts.

Hello rueshhari

This Muath i am also as your case, I am F-1 in USA applied to Sydney,NS , And they replied back OK.
And recommended to further processing in Buffalo.
My question to you is did you do IELTS test or not?
Iam not, and i don't know if they waived me or not , i wanna send Written explanation in English and other documents.
And do you sent your application to Sydney,NS Firts?

Best Regards,

I meant to say Sydney and said Buffalo by mistake. I changed it now.

Yes I applied to Sydney. I am hoping not to take IELTS so I did the whole written explanation thing. If they want me to do the IELTS, i am sure they will ask me to and I am not too worried about getting my PR later than earlier, as long as I see movement. The risk of not doing IELTS is that they might come back and ask you to do it which would delay your application.

Depending on the country where you come from, they might ask you to do IELTS even though you are studying in the US. What country are you from?

Appreciate your Cooperation,
