Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
Hi Mentors,

I am currently on a study permit and I hold a off campus work permit which allows me to work 20 hrs in Academic and 40 hrs in holidays.

I can potentially get a job which is Freelance Role (paid through invoicing to accounting not on payroll). Can I work as a Freelancer on the basis of my off campus work permit. Or is working as Freelancer considered as Self-employed and will be the wrong thing to do on my OCWP.

Please suggest as I want to follow and respect the rules.

Freelancing is considered as self-employment! Besides your work experience gained during your studies does not count towards your CEC application's work experience.

Best of luck,

Ok. I understand this experience is not counted. But can i work as a self employed on my Off-Campus work permit following the 20hrs per week rule? and 40hrs in scheduled break?

Please help.

Yes of course you can.

You're welcome,

Although for your better future, I suggest that you work for a company, go under payroll and file your taxes. This will help you to gain more experience and build up more potential employment opportunities in future as well as this shows that you are following the proper channels towards establishing your future life in Canada. Just a thought.

Best of luck,

Agreed. I had a job but i quit coz they were not doing my LMIA after my permit expires, so i took a course, In this time a same industry relevant agency approached me for a freelance job but paid, so i was concerned if i could use my OCWP to work on it.

Thanks for your help
